I built a dashboard in R Shiny using data on state spending on kids from the Urban Institute. There’s an option to either select spending on PK-12th grade or Parks and Recreation, and a checklist for each state you’d like to display. To normalize the spend across states, I indexed the amounts in the chart to the first year (1997). The data table below the chart includes the raw spend, and a column for percent change from one year to the next.

In Part One of my data analysis of The Office, I looked at the writers and directors behind the series and how they correlated with episode ratings. In Part Two, I’m analyzing the transcript of the episodes to learn about character sentiment, word choice, line frequency, and dialogue partners. Import and Clean Data You may need to install.packages(“schrute”). The schrute package includes lines by character, the writers, and director for each episode.

Like all millenials, I’m a big fan of The Office. I was excited to find this dataset via tidytuesday and decided to look at who the highest rated writers and directers are. Spoiler: Mindy Kaling did a lot more than play Kelly Kapoor. Data for this analysis is from the schrute R package for The Office transcripts and data.world for IMDB ratings of each episode.
